In Plugg, applications can be connected to one another to model relationships between different types of information. Once two applications are connected, their records can also be linked to each other; the linked information can be accessed through the Tab Bar of a record. For example, this would allow you to open a yeast strain record and see all the vectors that have been used with that strain by clicking on the Vectors tab.

Apps can be easily connected using our Plugg Studio, but you can also connect applications directly from the Tabs Customization window.

From the list view of an app, open any record to see the Tab Bar. Click on the link button at the end of the Tab Bar; this opens the Tabs Customization window. On the left side you will see a list of Available Tabs (i.e. the apps that are already connected to your app) and on the right side you will see a list of the tabs that already appear on your tab bar:

If the app you want to connect is already on the Available Tabs list, you can simply add it to the Selected Tabs list by clicking on it.

If the app you want to connect does not appear on the list of available tabs, you have to connect it.

To do that, click on the Connect App button and select the application you want to add from the drop down menu (you can start typing the name of an app to search for it and click to select). At this time you can also select a record you want to link to your currently open record (this step is optional; you can always link records at a later time):

Before you save, you can select the sharing option you prefer for this link:
  • Choose Share with Team to make this tab available to other users
  • Choose Just for Me to keep it private

(Note that if the applications you are linking are both set to Private, they will remain private even if you choose Share with Team).

Once you are done, click on Save — the two applications are now connected. The newly connected app will now appear on the list of available tabs and can be easily added to your tab bar by clicking on it.
