How to Import Your Records

With Plugg, you can quickly upload existing data to an application and turn your spreadsheets into Plugg records.

To upload a CSV file:

  1. Open the application where you want to add data.
  2. Click the Import/Export button in the application toolbar.
  3. Select Import CSV from the drop-down menu.
  4. Choose the file you want to upload from your computer and click Open.

Plugg will ask you to match each column in your spreadsheet to a field in your application. Your spreadsheet columns will appear on the left, and your application fields will appear on the right.

If a column does not match any existing field, you can create a suitable field in Plugg App Studio before completing the import. If there are columns you do not want to import, leave the matching field box empty.

Once all columns and fields are matched, click Import. You can use the arrows at the bottom of the page to preview the final result before importing.

Monitoring Import Progress

You can monitor the import progress in the bottom-right corner of the page:

  • Blue spinning wheel: Import in progress. Click the wheel to view progress.
  • Green wheel: Import complete. Reload the page to see your new records.

Important Note

CSV imports run as a background process and may take several minutes to complete, depending on the number of records being imported.

You may continue working in other areas of Plugg while the import is running. However, do not close or refresh your browser tab until the import is complete, as this will cancel the process.

Importing Records Using a Template

In many cases, importing data into Plugg is as simple as uploading an existing spreadsheet and matching its columns to the appropriate fields. However, if you are working with a more complex spreadsheet or migrating data from another application, it may be easier to download an empty CSV template from Plugg and organize your data within that template before importing.

When you use a Plugg-generated CSV template, the system automatically recognizes and maps the columns during import, reducing setup time and minimizing the risk of errors.

To download an empty CSV template:

  1. Open the application you want to import data into.
  2. Click the Import/Export button in the application toolbar.
  3. Select Download Empty CSV from the drop-down menu.

CSV templates are automatically updated whenever changes are made to an application, such as when fields are added, removed, or modified. To ensure a successful import, always download and use the latest version of the template before importing your data.

Things to Consider When Preparing Your CSV

Plugg imports data in the order it appears in your CSV file. This means the first row imported will be treated as the oldest record and will appear lower in your application by default, since newer records appear at the top. You can change your viewing order after the import if needed.

By default, Plugg skips the first row of your spreadsheet to account for the header row. To import the first row as a record, uncheck the Skip First Line (contains header) checkbox when matching columns to fields.

Empty rows in your spreadsheet will not be imported.

Importing Special Fields

Some field types, such as multi-select fields, date fields, linked records, and others, require additional formatting to be imported correctly.

Before importing these fields, make sure to review the step-by-step guide on importing special field types.
